SMART Goals in Sequence
Research shows that you are more likely to succeed in your goals if they are clearly defined and are attainable within a timeframe.
Most climbers what to get better, whether it's completing a challenging climb, mastering a specific style, or boosting their redpoint, onsight, or flash grades. The problem is that many climbers don’t make the time to solidify their thinking. Many climbers could seriously benefit from taking a moment to focus on their goals. Setting clear, well-defined objectives doesn’t have to be a chore, it’s an exciting opportunity to dive deep into the direction you want to take your climbing journey!
In this post, I’m going to explore how you can create a SMART goal in Sequence and show some additional features that give your goals more depth.
There are many ways to sets goals. For this example, I’m going to focus on the SMART framework. This framework is a popular method for setting objectives that are clear, actionable, and achievable. Having followed this framework for personal and professional goals, I can vouch for how well it works.
The basic idea behind SMART goals is to make sure your goals are:
-
Specific: Defining your goals clearly removes any ambiguity, helping you focus on exactly what you want to achieve.
-
Measurable: Having measurable criteria allows you to track progress and stay motivated, knowing when you've hit important milestones.
-
Achievable: By setting realistic goals, you ensure they are within reach, preventing burnout and keeping you encouraged as you progress.
-
Relevant: Goals that align with your objectives will keep you engaged and focused on the big picture.
-
Time-bound: Establishing a timeline creates urgency and accountability, helping you maintain momentum and achieve your objectives on schedule.
The SMART framework brings structure, making your goals more likely to succeed and helping you stay organised and consistent.
